Some of the most serious scientists alive believe aging is a problem that can be solved.

A few of them are already testing treatments on people. We go inside the labs, read the papers, and tell you what is real, what is promising, and what is still science fiction.

Three ways out.

  1. Reprogram the cell

In June 2026, Life Biosciences dosed the first patient with ER-100, a gene therapy for vision loss that switches on three of the genes known to reset cells to a younger state.

  2. Rejuvenate the body

Altos Labs launched in 2022 with $3 billion to make old cells behave like young ones. Its first human trial is planned for 2027.

  3. Copy the mind

In 2024, scientists mapped every connection in a fruit fly's brain: nearly 140,000 neurons and more than 50 million synapses. A human brain has about 86 billion neurons.

Episode one

Reversing age, starting with one eye.

ER-100 is the first partial reprogramming therapy cleared by the FDA for human trials. We follow it from the lab bench to the first patient, and ask what happens if it works.
